BANGKOK Gay Bars & Clubs 2021

Bangkok’s bar scene is lively and constantly changing. One off parties and club nights come and go and get more inventive each year as event organisers battle for locals and tourists! Those looking for late night fun and an almost exclusively gay-male environment should head to Soi 2, a small alley a short walk away filled with gay discos playing everything from electronic to pop.

Gay District Bangkok

Most of the popular gay bars are located next to each other with great terraces!

Our guide to gay bars in Bangkok.

Most of Bangkok’s gay scene is concentrated in the Silom area, around the Sala Daeng and Silom MRT stations. Soi 4 is a great place to begin your night. Be aware that entrances to the sois/alleyways can be easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled! Here you will find the famous Telephone and Balcony bars and the popular Stranger Bar. This is a popular area for pre-dinner drinks. The area gets busy by 10pm. Don’t miss the infamous “sperm shot” at Stranger.

Those looking for late night fun and an almost exclusively gay-male environment should head to Soi 2, a small alley a short walk away filled with gay discos playing everything from electronic to pop.

The red light district is to the north, running parallel to Silom Road you will find Suriwong Road which has Soi Twilight. Here you find bars full of rent boys and sex shows. This area is not for the faint of heart. Delve into the Bangkok Boys, Classic or Dream Boys to watch some of their inventive raunchy shows.

In Soi 2, DJ Station is one of the most popular gay clubs in the city and is busy every night of the week. Weekends are packed solid. If you still want to party after, head to GOD (Guys on Display) spread out over 3 floors!

Those looking to relax after a night out in Bangkok should head to Babylon. Busy from 7pm to 10pm, the sauna attracts gay guys from all over the world. Complete with Gym, Swimming Pool, a spa and a massage, this is not your usual sauna, and is well worth a visit! Hotel, bathhouse, massage parlour, bar, restaurant, and pool, a time at Babylon can be anything you want it to be. Other popular saunas include R3 Sauna and Chakran Sauna.

For shows, check out Calypso, a Bangkok institution for over 25+ years. Experience the most unique and eccentric drag cabaret shows with a large troupe of acts.

Sing Sing Theatre offers something completely different; a fantastical bar-cum-club with the most creative interior design concept in Bangkok. Paying homage to far Eastern aesthetics, you can expect intricate wrought iron patterns, hundreds of lanterns hanging from the ceiling and plenty of dragon imagery.

Thrasher throws one-off events that are redefining gay Bangkok nightlife with changing themes at different locations around town as locals and visitors, dress up, drink up, and dance to trashy pop songs.

Classic Boys Club down Soi Twilight can only be described as a Gay Bangkok version of Cirque De Soleil, mermen perform choreographed acts in a ‘tank show’ while you knock back a few Singhas. There’s also slightly less aquatic go-go dance performances, and many, many boys offering pay-for-play sex.

Every Sunday night at the Novotel Fenix Silom, the 1920’s themed speakeasy Maggie Choo’s swaps out their qipao-clad waitresses for shirtless hunks (some on swings) for a gay-themed night “The Importance of Being Ernest”. Aside from the reference to one of  literature’s (and gaydom’s) biggest icons, the hi-so, jazz-heavy night is hosted by G-Spot and Thailand’s most famous drag queen – Pangina Heels.

An institution in the Gay Bangkok scene, Sunday brunch at the Sukhothai should have both your Grindr and tastebuds in meltdown mode. Hungover, hungry, and horny guys gays  flock to one of the most decadent all-you-can-eat weekend brunches in the city. A crisp shirt and Bloody Mary here will have you right as rain if you did some regrettable things the night before.

  • When to go out?

As one of the most visited cities on the world, Bangkok is busy year round. People generally tend to eat between 6pm and 8pm (if you are local). Most restaurants will be busiest between 8pm and 10pm. Bars in Silom tend to get busy from 10pm onwards, earlier during the weekends! Clubs get busy from 1.30am, but you can party late into the night and into the next morning at the gay nightlcubs in Soi 2.

  • Where to Stay

In general, the closer you are to a Skytrain station, the happier you’ll be. Bangkok is a big city, with notoriously bad traffic, and being able to fly over it is a big advantage for getting around the city. Staying on the river also has the advantage of being able to avoid traffic to many destinations by traveling on water. Check out these hotels close to the gay district!
